Tragic Bridge Collapse in Gujarat Claims Lives and Injures Several

Bridge Collapse in Vadodara District
On Wednesday morning, a devastating incident occurred in Gujarat's Vadodara district, resulting in the deaths of at least nine individuals and injuring six others when multiple vehicles plunged into the Mahisagar river due to a bridge collapse.
The tragedy unfolded around 7:30 AM when a slab between two piers of the 900-meter Gambhira bridge, which connects Vadodara and Anand districts, gave way. This bridge was originally inaugurated in 1985.
Local swimmers, along with teams from the municipal corporation, the National Disaster Response Force, and police, were engaged in rescue operations, as reported by Vadodara Collector Anil Dhameliya.
As rescue efforts continued, Dhameliya stated that the identities of the deceased were still being confirmed, emphasizing that their primary focus was on saving lives.
The injured individuals were transported to a hospital in Vadodara for treatment, with four of those rescued sustaining only minor injuries.
Among the vehicles that fell into the river were two trucks, a van, a pickup truck, and an auto-rickshaw. Dhameliya noted that the section of the bridge that collapsed was not situated over the river's deepest area.
