A tragic incident occurred on Thursday evening at the Bargi Dam reservoir on the Narmada River. A cruise boat filled with tourists capsized due to a sudden and severe storm near Khamria Island. There were 29 passengers on board, and so far, six bodies have been recovered, while ten individuals remain missing in the deep waters.


Ongoing Rescue Efforts

A large-scale search and rescue operation is currently in progress. An official reported that a total of 29 tickets were issued for the cruise, with four individuals confirmed drowned and 15 rescued. The Bargi Dam is located in the Jabalpur district along the Narmada River.

Officials, including the Jabalpur Collector and the Superintendent of Police, are present at the scene alongside the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other rescue teams. Government Response

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has acknowledged the incident and directed Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh and Tourism Minister Dhruvendra Singh Lodhi to reach the site immediately. In a post on X, Yadav stated, "The tragic cruise accident at Bargi Dam due to the severe storm is being addressed by local administration and rescue forces without interruption. Efforts are underway to locate the missing individuals promptly, and the state government stands in solidarity with the affected families, ensuring all possible assistance."


Financial Assistance Announced

Yadav announced a financial aid of ₹4 lakh for the families of the deceased. He confirmed that the state government is committed to providing support with sensitivity and empathy during this crisis. The rescue operation will continue until all missing persons are accounted for, utilizing local divers and modern equipment.
