New Delhi: An Indian sailor lost his life during an assault on a commercial ship near Limah, Oman, last night, prompting India to issue a strong condemnation of the attack. This incident has raised the total number of Indian fatalities in the ongoing regional conflict, which began in February, to 23, including 15 seafarers. In response to this latest violence, India has reiterated its demand for an urgent de-escalation of tensions in West Asia and emphasized the need for a diplomatic resolution to restore peace and stability.
The vessel, MSV Al Jusufi, had 14 Indian crew members on board, with 13 successfully rescued, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday. The MEA stated, “We condemn the attack on the commercial vessel, MSV Al Jusufi, near Limah, Oman, yesterday evening. Of the 14 Indian nationals aboard, one tragically lost his life due to injuries sustained during the attack.”
The Indian embassy in Oman is actively monitoring the situation and is working with Omani authorities to facilitate the swift repatriation of the rescued crew members and the remains of the deceased sailor.
The MEA expressed deep concern over the ongoing attacks on commercial shipping in the region, reiterating calls for immediate de-escalation and the conclusion of diplomatic negotiations to restore peace. The statement emphasized that the targeting of commercial vessels and civilian infrastructure must cease, and that navigation and trade through international waters should be allowed to resume in accordance with international law.
