Tragic Attack in Pakistan: Suicide Bomber Targets Police Installation, Leaving 12 Dead
Devastating Suicide Bombing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Islamabad: A suicide bomber struck a police facility in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, resulting in the deaths of at least 12 police officers and injuring many others, according to official reports released on Sunday.
The incident occurred in the Bannu district around 8:55 p.m. local time on Saturday, leading to significant damage to the police installation, as per sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The attack involved a vehicle packed with explosives, which was followed by drone activity and a ground assault by armed militants, the sources indicated.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with teams using heavy machinery to search for potential survivors or additional victims trapped under the rubble, officials noted.
The Bomb Disposal Squad assessed that the explosive materials used in the attack ranged from 1,200 to 1,500 kg.
A militant group known as Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen Pakistan (IMP) has claimed responsibility for the bombing via social media platforms.
In recent months, Pakistan has experienced an increase in militant violence, particularly in its northwestern regions adjacent to Afghanistan, with a focus on attacks against security forces and law enforcement.
On Friday, Pakistani security forces reported the elimination of five militants during two separate intelligence-led operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to local media.
Four members of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan were killed in Tank district following a fierce gunfight with security personnel, as stated by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military's media wing.
Additionally, one militant was killed in Dera Ismail Khan district during another operation, with weapons and ammunition seized from the deceased militants, who were believed to be involved in various terrorist activities in the region.
