Incident Overview

In Gorakhpur district's Pipraich area, a tragic incident unfolded on Saturday night when a group of assailants attacked a nine-year-old boy, resulting in his death. His 15-year-old cousin sustained serious injuries during the assault, which involved sticks, iron rods, and bricks, as reported by local authorities on Sunday. This violent episode occurred just days after a village council attempted to mediate a dispute regarding alleged harassment of a female relative of the deceased boy, who was a high school student.

Victim Identification

The deceased has been identified as Sars Singh, a fourth-grade student from Araji Basdila in the AIMS police jurisdiction. Following the death of his mother five years ago, Sars had been living with his aunt in a village within the Pipraich area. His cousin, Shivkumar Singh, is currently receiving treatment at BRD Medical College.

Background of the Conflict

Tensions had been brewing between the families after allegations surfaced against a local youth, Sikandar Sahni, for harassing a girl from Shivkumar's family. Although a village council had resolved the issue, animosity lingered. On Saturday evening, while Sars and Shivkumar were heading to a local betel shop, they were reportedly ambushed by members of the opposing group near Bela Chauraha.

Details of the Assault

The attackers pursued them to a shop and assaulted them. According to police reports, Shivkumar was the primary target, but Sars suffered severe injuries while trying to intervene. Both boys were rushed to the Pipraich Community Health Center and later referred to BRD Medical College for further treatment.

Aftermath and Police Action

Sadly, Sars succumbed to his injuries late that night. Following the incident, tensions escalated in the village, prompting the deployment of additional police forces as a precaution. In response to the situation, Gorakhpur's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Kaustubh suspended the Pipraich Station House Officer (SHO) along with two other officers.

Based on a complaint filed by Shivkumar's father, Raju Singh, police have registered a murder case against Sikandar Sahni and eight others from Bela Sahwa Tola, including Hari, Rahul, Sandeep, Vikas, Ratneshwar, Manoj, Roshan, and Vijay. Circle Officer (Chauri Chaura) Kundan Singh stated that efforts to apprehend the suspects are ongoing, and the situation is currently under control.
