Dubai, June 3: A tragic incident occurred at Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, resulting in the death of an Indian citizen. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait has expressed its condolences and pledged support to those impacted by the attack.

The embassy shared its heartfelt sympathies on social media, stating, "We extend our deepest condolences for the loss of an Indian national due to the airport attack in Kuwait today."

They are actively working with local authorities to assist the grieving family and those who sustained injuries during the event.

Kuwaiti officials reported that air traffic was halted following strikes on Terminal One, which resulted in casualties and significant damage to the airport's infrastructure.

According to Abdullah Al-Rajhi, a spokesperson for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, as quoted by the state-run KUNA news agency, the attack disrupted airport operations and led to a temporary flight suspension.

Brig. Gen. Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi, a spokesperson for the Defence Ministry, indicated that "multiple hostile drones" targeted the passenger terminal, causing extensive damage and injuring several people.

This incident occurred shortly after the airport had resumed operations following a previous closure due to ongoing regional conflicts.

The US military reported that Iran launched two missiles towards Kuwait, which failed to reach their intended target, and that several drones aimed at American forces in the region were intercepted.

This attack is set against a backdrop of rising tensions in West Asia, exacerbated by the ongoing conflict involving Iran and its allies.

Conflicting reports have surfaced regarding diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions. Iranian news agencies Fars and Tasnim claimed that Iranian negotiators had ceased communication with ceasefire mediators amid escalating violence in Lebanon, where Hezbollah, backed by Iran, is engaged in conflict with Israel.

In contrast, former US President Donald Trump refuted claims of a breakdown in negotiations, labeling them as "false and erroneous." He stated on social media that discussions have been ongoing continuously, even in recent days, despite contrary reports.

Kuwaiti authorities are currently evaluating the damage at the airport, and investigations into the attack are in progress.
