Indian Ambassador's Visit to Kuwait Airport Attack Victims
Dubai: Paramita Tripathi, India's Ambassador to Kuwait, visited the mortuary housing the remains of an Indian citizen who lost his life during an attack at Kuwait International Airport. She also met with injured individuals receiving treatment in local hospitals as the embassy worked on repatriation and support efforts.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday amidst escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, resulting in the death of the Indian national and injuries to several others.
In a late-night social media update, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait confirmed that Tripathi had visited the Central Mortuary where the deceased's remains were located.
During her visit, the ambassador expressed gratitude to Brigadier Abdulrahim Al-Awadhi, the General Manager of the General Department of Criminal Evidence, for the swift and compassionate assistance provided by Kuwaiti authorities.
The embassy is actively communicating with the family of the deceased and coordinating with local officials to ensure the prompt transportation of the remains.
Tripathi also reached out to the injured Indian nationals in various hospitals, assuring them of comprehensive support and ongoing follow-up by the embassy with medical facilities and their families.
Previously, the embassy expressed heartfelt condolences regarding the death and emphasized its commitment to providing all necessary support to the bereaved family and the injured individuals.
According to a statement from the Kuwait Army, the Iranian strikes led to the death of the Indian expatriate and injuries to multiple individuals.
Colonel Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi, spokesperson for Kuwait's Ministry of Defence, extended sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and wished a swift recovery for all those injured.
Brigadier General Nasser Bousleeb, spokesperson for the Kuwaiti Interior Ministry, reported that Terminal 1 of Kuwait International Airport was struck by several hostile drones, resulting in one fatality and injuries to numerous travelers and workers.
This incident marks the tenth reported Indian fatality linked to the ongoing regional conflict since hostilities between Iran and the US escalated on February 28.
Earlier, another Indian national was killed in strikes on a power and water desalination facility on March 30.
In the previous month, an Indian sailor lost his life, and several others were injured when their wooden dhow caught fire near the Strait of Hormuz.
In March, one Indian national died, and another was injured due to debris from a missile interception in Abu Dhabi, while another Indian was killed in missile and drone strikes in Riyadh on March 18.
Additionally, two Indians perished in an attack on an industrial area in Oman on March 13, and three seafarers died in assaults on merchant vessels during the early days of the conflict.
There is also a report of one Indian citizen currently missing.
