Tragic Aircraft Crash in Mexico Claims Seven Lives
Fatal Incident in San Mateo Atenco
Mexico City, Dec 16: A small aircraft tragically crashed in the municipality of San Mateo Atenco, located in Mexico's central State of Mexico, resulting in the deaths of at least seven individuals, according to local officials.
Adrian Hernandez Romero, the civil protection coordinator for the state, informed the media that there were ten individuals aboard the aircraft, which included both the pilot and co-pilot. The identities of the deceased have yet to be disclosed.
Hernandez noted that the private jet was registered to carry eight passengers along with two crew members; however, only seven bodies had been retrieved hours following the incident.
It appears that the aircraft attempted to land on a soccer field but collided with the metal roof of a nearby business, igniting a significant fire. An investigation into the crash is currently underway.
The state civil protection agency has taken to social media to announce that emergency responders are active at the crash site and have urged the public to steer clear of the area, as reported by a news agency.
The accident took place on Monday in an industrial zone approximately 5.7 kilometers from Toluca International Airport, a major aviation center in the Toluca Valley.
According to a statement from Mexico's Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport, the incident occurred around 12:31 p.m. local time.
Ana Muniz Neyra, the mayor of San Mateo Atenco, visited the crash site and reiterated her plea for residents to avoid the vicinity. She confirmed that the aircraft was owned by Jet Pro and stated that there were no injuries reported on the ground.
