Tragic Air India Flight Crash: A Manipuri Crew Member Among the Passengers
Devastating Incident in Ahmedabad
Imphal: Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma, a cabin crew member from Thoubal, Manipur, was aboard the Air India flight that tragically crashed shortly after departing from Ahmedabad, carrying over 240 passengers.
Family members and officials from the Manipur government are actively seeking information regarding Sharma's status, as local media in Imphal reported a lack of updates.
The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, along with former Chief Minister N Biren Singh, expressed their sorrow and condolences regarding the incident.
The Raj Bhavan shared on its X account, "The Hon’ble Governor of Manipur has conveyed his profound sadness over the tragic aircraft crash during the flight from Ahmedabad to London. He has prayed for the swift recovery of all injured in this unfortunate event."
In a post on X, Biren Singh stated, "I am profoundly shocked and saddened by the Air India flight crash near Meghaninagar, Ahmedabad, this afternoon. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which was headed to London, had 242 individuals on board. This heartbreaking event has deeply affected the entire nation. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone on the flight and their families during this incredibly challenging time."
Chief Ministers from all northeastern states, including Assam (Himanta Biswa Sarma), Tripura (Manik Saha), Arunachal Pradesh (Pema Khandu), Meghalaya (Conrad K Sangma), Nagaland (Neiphiu Rio), and Mizoram (Lalduhoma), also expressed their shock over the crash through separate posts on their X accounts.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner (VT-ANB), which was en route to London, crashed just minutes after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The flight had 242 people on board, including two pilots and ten cabin crew members. Following the accident, flight operations at the airport were temporarily halted but resumed after a few hours.
