Family Mourns Loss After Ahmedabad Plane Crash

Rupal Patel, aged 45, was among the 241 victims of the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. She had traveled from London to her hometown in Uttarsanda village, Nadiad, for medical treatment. Rupal leaves behind her husband and three children. Her brother, Pawan Patel, recounted the last moments he spent with her at the airport before her flight back to London, where she had resided for the past 15 years.


Pawan Patel expressed his shock upon learning of the crash shortly after returning home from dropping Rupal off. He shared, 'My sister had come to Nadiad for treatment and was supposed to return to London today. I went to see her off, and then I received the devastating news.'


He recalled assisting Rupal with her luggage due to her medical condition and embraced her, urging her to take care of herself. 'I have provided a DNA sample, and I was informed that the results will be available in 72 hours,' he added.


Heena Patel, Rupal's sister-in-law, confirmed the tragic news, stating, 'My sister-in-law has lost her life in this incident. She had come to India for medical treatment and stayed with us during her visit.'


The Boeing 787-8, operating as Air India flight 171, crashed shortly after departing from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, resulting in the loss of 241 lives, including 12 crew members.


In response to the disaster, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has intensified its efforts at the crash site. NDRF Inspector Vinay Kumar reported that 81 bodies have been recovered so far, with seven teams deployed to manage the emergency.


The passenger flight tragically crashed into a residential doctors' hostel building near the airport on Thursday. A formal investigation has been initiated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to determine the cause of the crash, as confirmed by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu.
