Tragic Aftermath of RCB's IPL Victory: Stampede Claims Lives at Celebration Event

Celebration Turns to Tragedy

After nearly two decades of waiting, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finally secured their first IPL championship in 2025. However, the anticipated celebration quickly soured into a tragedy. Initially, RCB had organized a roadshow in Bengaluru to commemorate their victory, but logistical issues led to its cancellation. Instead, the festivities were held at the renowned M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a large crowd of fans gathered to celebrate this historic achievement.

Stampede Results in Casualties

Regrettably, the joyous occasion was overshadowed by a stampede that tragically resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals and left 56 others injured, casting a pall over the celebrations.

Legal Action Following the Incident

In light of the unfortunate event, Bengaluru Police initiated an FIR against RCB's management, the event management company DNA Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). The allegations include mismanagement and negligence that may have led to the chaos at the stadium.

KSCA Seeks Legal Relief

In a prompt response, KSCA President Raghu Ram Bhat and other officials sought relief from the Karnataka High Court, aiming to dismiss the FIR against them. During the court proceedings, it was determined that no coercive measures should be taken against KSCA officials until the next hearing.

Detention of Key Officials

Following the FIR, Bengaluru Police detained four significant figures, including:

Nikhil Sosle – RCB’s Head of Marketing and Revenue

Sunil Matthew – RCB official

Kiran Kumar – DNA Entertainment

Another unnamed officer

Some of these individuals were reportedly apprehended at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are working to ascertain the full extent of accountability.

Upcoming Court Hearing

The Karnataka High Court has set the next hearing for June 9, where the petition from RCB’s marketing head Nikhil Sosle and other officials will be examined in detail. Until then, the court has mandated that no severe actions be taken against the involved parties.
