Multiple Accidents Lead to Loss of Lives

A series of unfortunate events unfolded in the Sundernagar subdivision of Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, on Monday, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to three others, two of whom are in critical condition. The injured are currently receiving medical attention at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla.


The first accident took place around 8 am near Charkhri when a private bus, left unattended by its driver, rolled backward down a slope. Reports indicate that the driver had stepped away for tea after starting the bus. At the time, there were three women and a child aboard.


According to ASP Mandi Abhimanyu Verma, 75-year-old Kalawati was killed instantly, while 11-year-old Yakshit and his mother, 31-year-old Geeta Devi, suffered severe injuries and were transported to IGMC Shimla. Another passenger, 55-year-old Krishna Devi, sustained minor injuries and was treated and released after receiving first aid. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident.


In a separate incident, an 85-year-old woman named Himi Devi tragically lost her life in a kitchen fire late Sunday night in Kushla village, located under the Ghirri gram panchayat. Local residents attempted to extinguish the flames but were unable to rescue her in time as she was asleep in the kitchen.


The third accident occurred on Monday morning on the Salapar–Tattapani road, where a car veered off course and fell into the Satluj river. SDM Sundernagar Amar Negi confirmed that both individuals in the vehicle died at the scene. The victims were identified as Nagin Kumar and Kuldeep, both from Panjolth village. The local administration has provided immediate support to the grieving families.


MLA Rakesh Jamwal expressed his sorrow over these tragic events and extended his condolences to the victims' families. He has also instructed the district administration to offer all necessary assistance to those affected and wished for a swift recovery for the injured.
