Yamuna Expressway Collision Results in Multiple Fatalities
The District Magistrate of Mathura, CP Singh, has confirmed that the death toll from a recent collision involving several vehicles on the Yamuna Expressway has risen to 19. He stated that both the expressway authorities and the state government have issued strict guidelines to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. Singh reported that the tragic event took place on December 16, resulting in the loss of 19 lives. Four bodies have been identified, while DNA samples have been collected for the remaining victims. Approximately 90 individuals sustained injuries, with most having been discharged from the hospital, although six are still receiving treatment.
Government Takes Action to Enhance Road Safety
Officials have indicated that the Uttar Pradesh government has implemented directives aimed at preventing similar occurrences in the future. They emphasized that vehicles should travel in convoys and should be halted during low visibility conditions. The state has also mandated the installation of cameras and conducted a road safety audit. A four-member team, including officials from the Yamuna Expressway Authority, is currently investigating the incident. It is the driver's responsibility to adhere to speed limits.
Chief Minister Offers Support to Victims' Families
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took note of the severe vehicle accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura district, directing immediate financial assistance of ₹2 lakh to the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 to the injured. Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, the Chief Minister extended his condolences to the bereaved families and instructed officials to ensure prompt, adequate, and free medical treatment for all injured individuals, along with any necessary support.

The Chief Minister's office shared a post on X, stating, "Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has acknowledged the road accident in Mathura district and expressed profound sadness over the loss of life and property. He has conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased and directed officials to provide immediate, appropriate, and free treatment to the injured, along with all possible assistance. The Chief Minister has also emphasized the need for swift relief and rescue operations and close monitoring of the medical care for those affected."
