Fatal Incident on Highway in Gujarat

A heartbreaking incident has emerged from the Surendranagar district of Gujarat. Late Sunday night, a speeding truck struck a group of pedestrians who were on a pilgrimage along the Lakhtar-Viramgam highway. This horrific accident resulted in the immediate deaths of seven individuals, with several others reported injured.


According to Lakhtar police inspector Yogesh Patel, the tragedy occurred around 1:30 AM on the highway when a group of pilgrims was walking from Rajkot to visit the Bahucharaji temple. He noted that a fast-moving truck ran over the devotees on the outskirts of Bhaskarpara village in the Lakhtar taluka.


Patel reported that six pilgrims and a dumper driver standing by the roadside lost their lives, including four women among the deceased. The exact number of injured individuals is still unclear. He stated, “The accident happened while the pilgrims were walking. They were on their way to worship at the Bahucharaji temple when they were struck from behind by a speeding truck.” The inspector added that the truck driver fled the scene, and efforts to apprehend him are ongoing.
