Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Four Pilgrims in Madhya Pradesh
Fatal Incident During Kanwar Yatra
In a tragic event early Wednesday morning in Gwalior district, Madhya Pradesh, four pilgrims participating in the Kanwar Yatra lost their lives after being struck by a speeding car, with two others sustaining injuries, according to police reports.
A police official stated that the car collided with the pilgrims walking along the roadside before overturning. The driver fled the scene but was later apprehended.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his sorrow over the incident and announced a compensation of four lakh rupees for the families of the deceased.
The incident occurred around 2 AM on the Shivpuri link road near the Agra-Mumbai National Highway (NH-3), when one of the car's tires burst, leading to the crash.
The police reported that three of the pilgrims died at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Local residents, outraged by the incident, protested at the site demanding the arrest of those responsible.
Another official confirmed that the driver had initially escaped but was later taken into custody. The victims were identified as Puran Banjara, Ramesh Banjara, Dinesh, and Dharmendra, all residents of Simaria village near Ghatigaon.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Chief Minister Yadav expressed his condolences for the untimely deaths of the four pilgrims during the sacred Kanwar Yatra in the Bhitarwar assembly constituency of Gwalior district.
He instructed officials to provide four lakh rupees as ex gratia to the families of the deceased and prayed to Lord Mahakal for the peace of the departed souls. The district administration is committed to offering all possible assistance to the victims, and doctors have been directed to provide free treatment to the injured.
