Bengaluru, April 16: R. Ashoka, a senior leader of the BJP and the Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, has expressed profound sorrow following the tragic death of eight pilgrims in a road accident in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.
R. Ashoka condemned the incident, stating, "Reports have surfaced regarding a heartbreaking road accident that took place early this morning near Mantralayam in Andhra Pradesh. Eight devotees from Chikkamagaluru district in Karnataka, who were en route for darshan, tragically lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries."
He emphasized the shock caused by this incident, saying, "I extend my deepest condolences to the families mourning their loved ones in this tragic event and wish for the swift recovery of those injured."
Ashoka urged the state government to promptly offer suitable compensation to the bereaved families and ensure that the injured receive necessary medical care.
"I pray that God grants eternal peace to the souls lost and provides strength to their families during this difficult time," he added.
Former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai also expressed his sorrow, stating, "I am heartbroken to hear about the tragic accident near Mantralayam in Andhra Pradesh, which claimed the lives of eight devotees from Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka, while several others were injured."
"I convey my heartfelt sympathies to the families affected by this unfortunate incident. I call upon the state government to ensure immediate and adequate compensation for the deceased's families and to provide the best medical treatment for the injured," he remarked.
"May the souls of the departed rest in peace. I hope their families find the strength to cope with this immense loss," he concluded.
The accident occurred when a vehicle carrying devotees collided with a ready-mix concrete truck near Chilakaladona village in Yemmiganur mandal during the early hours of Thursday.
Approximately 20 individuals from Chikkamagaluru district were traveling to the Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt pilgrimage center in Mantralayam.
Among the deceased were six women, including a young girl, as reported by the police. The injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
