Tragedy Strikes: Seven Dead in South Delhi Building Collapse, Owner Arrested
Rescue Efforts Conclude at Satya Niketan Collapse Site
In New Delhi, rescue operations at the site of the Satya Niketan building collapse wrapped up on Monday after various agencies worked tirelessly overnight to free individuals trapped beneath the rubble.
Delhi Police reported that five individuals were rescued and transported to local hospitals, while the number of fatalities from the incident has tragically increased to seven.
The injured individuals have been named as Asgar Ali, 30, Neeraj Bawa, 19, Aditya Kumar, 19, Nitish Chib, 19, and Md. Ayan, 18. Officials confirmed that all five are receiving medical care, with three in critical condition.
Authorities indicated that a total of 12 people were hospitalized following the collapse of the five-story structure, which served as accommodation for students.
Among the deceased, seven individuals, including an unidentified man, lost their lives due to their injuries. The victims have been identified as Abhishek, 20, from Sonbhadra in Uttar Pradesh; Yuvraj Soni, 20, from Durg in Chhattisgarh; Pawan, 17, from Auraiya in Uttar Pradesh; Arpit Jahaj, 19, from Dewas in Madhya Pradesh; Akshat Singh Yadav, 18, from Katni in Madhya Pradesh; and Surinder Singh, 75, a laborer. The identity of one victim remains unconfirmed.
Most of those affected were students living in the Satya Niketan area, which is known for its high density of coaching centers and student housing.
Officials are currently investigating the cause of the building's collapse. Multiple emergency response teams were involved in the rescue and relief efforts.
In a related development, Delhi Police arrested the building's owner, Hariram Bansal, in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, after he allegedly fled the scene following the incident.
Bansal was taken into custody shortly after police issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) as investigations intensified.
Earlier that day, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) suspended five employees in connection with the tragic collapse.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has pledged to hold accountable anyone found responsible for the incident.
