Devastating Collapse in Central African Republic
Bangui: The tragic collapse of a gold mine in the western region of the Central African Republic has resulted in over 100 fatalities, according to a local official and a Red Cross volunteer involved in the rescue operations.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning in Zamboye village, located in the Nana-Mambere prefecture, close to the Cameroon border.
Gervais Ganagoroh, a Red Cross volunteer, reported that more than 100 bodies have been retrieved, with many survivors suffering from severe injuries.
Bertrand Be Yangue, a representative from the Zamboye youth council, confirmed the death toll has surpassed 100 and warned that it may increase as numerous individuals remain unaccounted for and others are trapped beneath the debris.
"It would be a miracle to find them alive," Yangue expressed. "Our hearts are heavy as we witness young lives lost while they sought to support their families through mining."
