Karnataka Government Faces Backlash After Fatal Stampede

Amid rising anger over the Karnataka government's negligence and mismanagement, a tragic stampede has resulted in the deaths of eleven individuals, including several children. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar was visibly emotional while addressing the media, expressing the need for administrative lessons to be learned. He remarked, 'Let the opposition politicize the deaths; I will highlight how they have exploited these tragedies. However, it pains me to see young children affected. I have witnessed their suffering.'

Karnataka's Home Minister, Dr. G. Parameshwara, announced that the Chief Minister has ordered a magistrate's inquiry into the incident. He visited the gates where the stampede occurred to assess the situation. On Thursday, Shivakumar recounted how quickly the situation escalated and how officials urged him to conclude the event. He stated, 'The police commissioner instructed me to wrap up the program within ten minutes. I complied swiftly, as I was informed that one or two lives had already been lost.'

Discussing the stadium's conditions, he mentioned, 'Neither I nor the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) management could reach the site in time; I had to transport them in my vehicle. I had no interest in going to the KSCA. I took the president and secretary with me. We ensured no announcements were made and concluded everything promptly, with KSCA's agreement.'


Commenting on the political reactions from the BJP, he reiterated, 'We must learn from this administrative failure; let the opposition politicize the deaths. I will reveal how they have capitalized on these tragedies. Yet, it is heartbreaking to see children suffer. I have felt their pain.'
