Bridge Collapse in Pune District


Mumbai: On Sunday, Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reported that two people lost their lives and 32 others sustained injuries, with six in critical condition, following the collapse of a bridge over the Indrayani River in Pune district.


Fadnavis confirmed that six individuals have been rescued thus far, and a search operation is underway as some victims were swept away by the river's strong currents.


The incident took place in the Kundamala region, a popular spot for picnics, which has been experiencing heavy rainfall recently, causing the river to swell.


Expressing his sorrow, Fadnavis stated on social media, "I am deeply saddened by the tragic news of the bridge collapse over the Indrayani River in Indori, near Talegaon. Initial reports indicate that two individuals have died. I extend my heartfelt condolences to their families."


The Chief Minister also mentioned that he has been in contact with local officials, including the Divisional Commissioner, District Collector, Superintendent of Police, and the relevant Tehsildar.


He emphasized that a search operation was initiated promptly, with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed to assist at the scene.


Efforts for relief and rescue have been intensified immediately.
