Traffic Relief in Noida: Elevated Road Improvements Enhance Commute
Significant Traffic Improvements in Noida
In a positive development for the residents of Noida, traffic congestion around DSC Road and the Bhangeal Elevated Road has seen notable improvements. The Noida Authority has initiated road widening and footpath removal, resulting in a much quicker commute from Sector 41 Agahpur to NSEZ. What previously took 30 to 40 minutes can now be completed in just 8 to 10 minutes.
Ongoing Challenges Despite Improvements
Despite these enhancements, significant traffic jams persist in certain areas, indicating that further work is needed. The Bhangeal Elevated Road, which connects Sector 41 Agahpur to the Phase 2 drain, is considered one of the city's key projects. This 5.5-kilometer stretch has cost approximately 600 crores, aimed at alleviating the heavy traffic congestion on DSC Road. However, technical issues and improper traffic flow have continued to trap drivers in daily jams.
Changes Implemented by the Authority
Local residents and drivers identified two main causes of the congestion. The first was the footpath on one side of the road and the divider on the other, which narrowed the road and slowed vehicle speeds. The second issue was a U-turn before entering the elevated road, which caused long queues of vehicles trying to access it from Sector 42, Sector 45, and nearby areas. During peak hours, traffic conditions became so severe that drivers found themselves stuck in long jams.
Recent Improvements and Their Impact
In response to ongoing complaints, the Noida Authority began improvement work on Sunday. Portions of the footpath leading from Agahpur have been removed, widening the road and allowing vehicles to flow more freely towards Sector 49 intersection. This has reduced traffic pressure and provided relief to those entering the elevated road. The Authority believes that the increased road width will enhance vehicle movement and reduce congestion.
Areas Benefiting from the Elevated Road
While the road widening has provided some relief, the problem is not entirely resolved. Heavy traffic jams still occur near the Phase 2 drain, where many drivers enter from the wrong side, causing complete traffic standstill. The traffic police and the Authority have yet to devise a local solution for this area. Residents warn that without traffic signals and strict monitoring, conditions may revert to previous levels. Conversely, the Bhangeal Elevated Road has directly benefited several sectors and areas in Noida, including 41, 49, 50, 51, 82, 101, 106, 110, Barola, Salarpur, and Bhangeal. Locals report that commuting during office hours has become significantly easier compared to the past, where long traffic jams on DSC Road were a daily struggle.
