Top Boxers Shine at National Championships in Greater Noida
Elite Boxers Advance to Semi-Finals
In a remarkable display of skill, leading boxers from the nation, including world champion Minakshi Hooda and two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen, have successfully reached the semi-finals of the Elite Men and Women National Boxing Championships. Their victories in the quarterfinals took place in Greater Noida.
This event marks a historic moment as it is the first instance where both men's and women's National Championships are being conducted concurrently at Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida. A total of 600 boxers are competing across ten weight categories for both genders, as reported by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).
Quarter-Final Highlights
1. In the women's 45-48kg category, Minakshi Hooda from All India Police triumphed over Kashish Mehta from Punjab with a score of 5:0.
2. Nikhat Zareen (48-51kg) also secured a decisive victory, defeating Manipur's Lanchenbee Chanu Tongbram by the same margin.
3. In the men's 65-70kg quarterfinals, Hitesh Gulia overcame Punjab's Tejaswi with a score of 5:0 to move forward.
4. Pawan Bartwal, a silver medallist from the World Boxing Cup Finals, along with Jadumani Singh and Sachin, all achieved unanimous decisions in their semifinal matches. Pawan defeated Tyson from Arunachal Pradesh, Jadumani bested Nikhil from Punjab, and Sachin won against Karan from UP.
5. In the women's 51-54kg quarterfinals, Preeti emerged victorious against Harmeet Kaur Virk from Punjab with a score of 5:0, while Sakshi triumphed over Poonam from RSPB with a score of 4:1.
