TMC Stands Strong Despite Internal Conflicts

In the midst of internal discord within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), party legislator Kunal Ghosh asserted on Friday that the party's members remain united and loyal to former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He highlighted that a recent gathering of party workers in North Kolkata saw a significant turnout, with attendees chanting slogans in support of Banerjee and the party leadership. Speaking to a News Media outlet in Kolkata, Ghosh mentioned that despite heavy rainfall, the hall was packed, and many workers gathered outside. The rallying cry was: "We are not traitors; we stand with Didi."

He further noted that Mamata Banerjee personally communicated with the workers via a telephone message. Ghosh accused the BJP of using false cases to harass individuals and stated that those who abandon the party after winning elections under its symbol are betraying the party. He emphasized that the TMC would confront these baseless allegations, asserting that the true strength lies with the loyal workers, who have Mamata's complete trust. He criticized those who switch sides for personal gain.

Ghosh's comments come amid rising tensions within the party. A rebel faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee has announced the formation of a new leadership structure for the 'All India Trinamool Congress Committee,' appointing Arup Roy as its president. This faction claims to have the support of at least 58 out of 80 party legislators. They have also established a 30-member National Working Committee (NWC) and suggested that Mamata Banerjee should continue to play a guiding role within the party. Key figures in this committee include Farhad Hakim, Arup Biswas, Rathin Ghosh, Sabina Yasmin, Javed Khan, and Sandipan Saha, with Hakim, Biswas, Ghosh, and Yasmin appointed as vice-presidents.

In another development, twenty TMC MPs, led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, announced a merger with the 'Nationalist Citizens Party of India' (NCPI). Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee has taken swift action to strengthen her position by submitting an official list of party officials to the Election Commission, identifying herself as the party chairperson.
