TMC's Response to BJP's Policies

The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) has announced plans for protests on May 21 in Kolkata and surrounding areas against the alleged forced evictions of street vendors and the so-called 'bulldozer culture' implemented by the newly formed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in West Bengal. Demonstrations are expected to take place at Howrah Station, Sealdah Station, and near Ballygunge, with participation anticipated from party leaders and activists. These protests aim to highlight the targeting of street vendors and minority communities.

This announcement comes in the wake of rising political tensions following the recent assembly elections in West Bengal. In these elections, the BJP secured 207 seats, marking the end of the Trinamool Congress's 15-year rule, while the TMC managed to win 80 seats. During a meeting with party legislators in Kalighat, TMC leader Mamata Banerjee stated that minority communities are being targeted, and street vendors' stalls are being demolished. She criticized the government for undermining constitutional values and expressed confidence that the BJP would be ousted from power in Delhi in the near future.

Meanwhile, TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee reaffirmed his commitment to continue the political struggle against the BJP despite the electoral defeat. Addressing party legislators, he stated, "Do whatever you want... demolish my house, send notices... I will not be intimidated by these actions. No matter what happens, my fight against the BJP will persist."

An FIR has been filed against Abhishek Banerjee at the Bidhannagar North Cyber Crime Police Station, accusing him of making inflammatory statements during election rallies. The complaint, lodged by Rajiv Sarkar on May 15, alleges that Banerjee delivered provocative and threatening speeches in Maheshtala, Arambagh, Harinagata, and Nandigram, raising concerns about potential violence and public disorder.
