TMC MPs Take a Stand in Delhi

In light of reports regarding a rebellion among 22 MPs of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), loyal members of Mamata Banerjee's party have gathered in Delhi. On Sunday, TMC MPs Kirti Azad and Sagarika Ghosh unexpectedly visited the residence of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. When questioned by the media about having a prior appointment with the Speaker, Kirti Azad responded, "If Sir grants us time, we will go inside. Otherwise, we will leave."

Formation of Separate Factions Violates Constitution

After submitting a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker's office, TMC MP Sagarika Ghosh addressed the media, launching a strong critique against the rebel faction. She stated, "We have provided a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, clearly stating that TMC is an indivisible and united party. No separate faction can be formed within the Lok Sabha. This is entirely against the Constitution. Those who wish to divide TMC and create a separate group within Parliament are not permitted by law."

Criticism of Rebel MPs

Targeting the dissenting MPs, Sagarika further remarked, "This reflects your moral weakness; when the party faces electoral defeat, you abandon the party, the leader, and the election symbol that brought you to Parliament."

Kirti Azad References the Tenth Schedule

Former cricketer and TMC MP Kirti Azad discussed legal regulations, stating, "The matter is quite clear. The Supreme Court's constitutional bench has ruled on this, and Article 4 of the Constitution's Tenth Schedule explicitly states that no division within the party can be recognized."

Citing Maharashtra's Political Landscape

He further cited the political situation in Maharashtra as an example, saying, "What happened in Maharashtra was entirely wrong. Therefore, we have come here with an application regarding this matter and have submitted our letter to the Speaker. We are confident that the Lok Sabha Speaker will make a decision in accordance with the rules and the Constitution of the country, as they have consistently done."
