Over 20 members of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have reached out to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, intensifying speculation about ongoing discord within the party. Reports indicate that these MPs are contemplating forming a separate faction or even a new political party, as there appears to be sufficient support among them. Sources suggest that a distinct block for TMC in the Lok Sabha may soon emerge, although a final decision will be made at an appropriate time.

Challenges Mounting for Mamata Banerjee

This political upheaval arises as pressure mounts on former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding signs of dissent within the party. The situation escalated following the resignation of senior TMC leader Sukendu Shekhar Roy, prompting a series of meetings and political alliances in New Delhi that have now spiraled into a significant controversy. Initially, the MPs convened with Sukendu Roy, followed by crucial discussions in Delhi.

Key MPs Involved in Recent Meetings

According to sources, around 13 TMC Lok Sabha MPs were the first to meet Sukendu Shekhar Roy in Delhi, which quickly fueled speculation about a potential restructuring within the party. Shortly thereafter, this group reportedly met with senior BJP leader and Union Minister Bhupender Yadav. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari was also present at the meeting, although the official list of attendees has not been confirmed.

Sources indicate that the MPs involved in these developments include Prasun Banerjee (Howrah), Sharmila Sarkar (Bardhaman Purba), Arup Chakraborty (Bankura), Kalipada Soren (Jhargram), Jagdish Chandra Basunia (Cooch Behar), Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar (Barasat), Partha Bhowmik (Barrackpur), Bapi Halder (Mathurapur), Shatabdi Roy (Birbhum), Asit Kumar Mal (Bolpur), Jun Mal (Medinipur), Abu Taher Khan (Murshidabad), and Khalilur Rahman (Jangipur). However, insiders suggest that it may be challenging for MPs from minority backgrounds to join any new political organization, with indications that some may eventually return to the party.

Political Turmoil Following Sukendu Roy's Resignation

In his resignation letter addressed to TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, Sukendu Shekhar Roy launched a scathing attack on the party, accusing it of "widespread corruption, severe atrocities against women, and complete failure in governance." He also highlighted the "serious chaos" prevalent in key sectors such as education, healthcare, industry, employment, and law and order in West Bengal.
