Incident of Egg Throwing at TMC MP

On Wednesday, Mahua Moitra, a Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), alleged that a crowd gathered outside a restaurant in her Krishnanagar constituency hurled eggs at her. Moitra shared videos on her Facebook and X accounts, which purportedly captured the egg-throwing incident, and she criticized the BJP for this act. The MP accused the BJP of orchestrating the attack while the state police stood by without intervening. In the footage recorded from inside the restaurant, eggs can be seen hitting the windows as Moitra, accompanied by local TMC leaders and party workers, documented the event on her mobile phone.

Reactions and Context

As the eggs struck the window panes, Moitra was heard alleging that BJP activists were behind the assault. The videos quickly gained traction on social media, with the TMC blaming BJP supporters for the incident. The BJP has yet to respond to these allegations. This occurrence follows a series of similar attacks on party leaders after TMC's defeat to the BJP in the West Bengal Assembly elections held in May, where the BJP managed to unseat Mamata Banerjee's government.
