Allegations of Corruption Within TMC
Kirti Azad, a Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), made serious allegations against rebel party members on Friday, accusing them of corruption. He claimed that Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar was caught on camera accepting a bribe of 500,000 rupees. Azad questioned her integrity, especially in light of her criticisms of TMC leader Mamata Banerjee. Speaking to a news outlet, he asserted that Dastidar has a history of accepting bribes and hinted at having information about others involved, promising to expose them when the time is right.
Details of the Allegations
Azad emphasized that Dastidar was indeed filmed accepting the money, questioning her honesty. He remarked, 'Where was her integrity then? Yet she questions Mamata Banerjee about corruption. When she speaks of bribery, she should disclose how many of the initial eight individuals were involved... I am aware of all these details. One day, I will reveal them. My intention is to catch her red-handed when she receives 1 million rupees. This is not impossible, as the information will come from her own camp.'
Targeting Other Rebel Leaders
Azad also directed his criticism towards rebel leader Ritabrata Banerjee, alleging that despite past controversies and being expelled from the Left, he continues to seek political positions. Azad stated, 'Take Ritabrata Banerjee, for instance, who was involved in a scandalous video that led to his expulsion from the Left. He has been begging for a seat or position from the 'Yuvraj'. He was first made an MP, then the head of a trade union, and later an MLA. He was promised the position of Labor Minister if our government came to power. But why discuss such ingrates?'
Comments on Abhishek Banerjee's Case
Regarding TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee's statement about not fighting Abhishek Banerjee's case, Azad mentioned that everything has been resolved. He described Banerjee as an emotional person who gets angry quickly but maintains a good relationship with his sister. Azad elaborated on the alleged coercive tactics used by the BJP under 'Operation Lotus', stating, 'BJP members were inside the homes of MPs who did not sign. Police were stationed outside, and their homes were vandalized. Their families were threatened, leading many to come forward out of fear.'
Further Allegations Against BJP
He added that the home of Bapi Halder was completely destroyed, leaving him shaken. Halder is a first-time MP and young. Azad pointed out that the first eight names were written in a different ink color compared to the next group, which included three Muslims. He noted that the BJP now needs these individuals, despite their previous derogatory remarks, as they require a two-thirds majority.
