Reports have emerged regarding an attack on Kalyan Banerjee, a senior leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), in Hooghly, West Bengal. The TMC leader has accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers of being behind the assault, claiming that he was struck on the head with a cricket ball. Following the incident, Banerjee lay down on the road in protest, prompting police officers present at the scene to assist him. In response to the attack, TMC supporters vocally protested against the BJP.

According to sources, Kalyan Banerjee was en route to submit a deputation regarding post-election violence in the Chandipur area when BJP workers displayed black cloths and vehemently opposed him, escalating tensions in the area.

Previous Attack on Abhishek Banerjee

Earlier, on Saturday, TMC's national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee faced significant backlash and anger from locals in Sonarpur. He had visited the area to meet families affected by post-election violence, where he was reportedly attacked.

Violence During Sonarpur Incident

During the chaos in Sonarpur, angry individuals threw stones, shoes, and eggs at MP Abhishek Banerjee. Some attempted to push and hit him, resulting in his shirt being torn. The crowd also chanted 'thief-thief' slogans against him.

First Public Appearance Post-Election Results

This visit marked Abhishek Banerjee's first public appearance following the announcement of the West Bengal assembly election results. The visit was announced late Friday night, indicating that he would meet the family of Sanju Karmakar, a victim of electoral violence, in Ward No. 9 (Vivekanandnagar) of the Sonarpur municipality, where the uproar occurred upon his arrival.
