TMC Leader Accuses Owaisi of Receiving Funds from BJP Ahead of Bengal Elections

Allegations Against Owaisi

On Monday, Jay Prakash Majumdar, a leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), claimed that Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), is receiving bribes from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This accusation came after the announcement of an alliance between Humayun Kabir's Common People's Upliftment Party and TMC for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. Majumdar referred to Owaisi as a 'collection master' during a conversation with reporters.

Majumdar asserted that Owaisi lacks political influence outside Hyderabad and reiterated his claim that Owaisi is receiving funds from the BJP. He stated, 'Owaisi received money during the last assembly elections as well... I won't disclose how many crores he took from the BJP, but I know because I was with the BJP at that time. They will do the same this time.' He emphasized that AIMIM has no political impact beyond Hyderabad, and Owaisi travels to various locations under the pretext of representing Muslims and minorities, labeling him a 'collector.'

AIMIM's Upcoming Alliance

Asaduddin Owaisi has announced that his party will contest the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections in alliance with Humayun Kabir's Common People's Upliftment Party. In a phone interview, Owaisi stated, 'I will hold a press conference with Humayun Kabir in Kolkata on March 25.'

Earlier, in a conversation with a news agency, Humayun Kabir, the founder of the Common People's Upliftment Party and a former TMC leader, mentioned that his party plans to contest 182 seats in the upcoming 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. Kabir confirmed, 'My party, along with our alliance, will contest 182 seats. AIMIM will be a partner and will contest approximately 8 seats.'
