TMC Leader Accuses Finance Minister of Misleading Parliament on West Bengal Issues
TMC's Allegations Against the Finance Minister
In the Rajya Sabha, Sagarika Ghosh, the deputy leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), accused Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman of misleading the house regarding West Bengal while responding to discussions on the Central Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
During her address, Sitharaman criticized the West Bengal government, led by Mamata Banerjee, claiming that despite receiving full support from the central government, the state administration has hindered the region's development. Following her remarks, Sagarika expressed her discontent with the Finance Minister's response, labeling it as a "murder of democracy" while speaking to the media in the Parliament complex.
She stated, "Today in the Rajya Sabha, we witnessed the murder of constitutional democracy and parliamentary democracy. In her response to the discussion on the Central Excise Amendment Bill, 2025, the honorable Finance Minister repeatedly misled the house about Bengal, making unfounded statements without any evidence." Additionally, she mentioned that TMC leader Derek O'Brien sought permission to raise a point of order in the Rajya Sabha, which was denied.
