TMC Intensifies Battle Against Rebel MPs in National Capital
TMC Takes Action Against Rebel MPs
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has escalated its efforts against rebel MPs by bringing the matter to the national capital. Abhishek Banerjee, the party's national general secretary, met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to discuss the merger of 20 TMC MPs into the 'Nationalist Citizens Party of India' (NCPI). Following discussions with party leader Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata, Banerjee arrived in Delhi alongside senior leaders Derek O'Brien and Sougata Roy. This development has intensified the ongoing political crisis facing the TMC.
Claims of a Separate Faction
After his meeting with Speaker Om Birla, Abhishek Banerjee stated that the 20 TMC MPs had met with the Speaker a few days prior, claiming to form a separate faction. According to media reports, they asserted their recognition as a distinct group. However, just hours later, a few of them claimed to have merged with the NCPI, a move that was previously unknown to the TMC. As the leader of the TMC in the Lok Sabha, I have submitted 20 separate petitions for disqualification against those who claim to form a separate faction. The 10th Schedule is against those individuals. If they have any integrity, they should resign from their positions.
Accusations Against Rebel MPs
Banerjee accused these 20 rebel MPs of betraying the public and disrespecting the Constitution. He claimed they have sold their conscience, dignity, and integrity, stating that the people of Bengal will never forgive them. Many of these MPs are under central security, yet no one in their constituencies stands by them. He alleged that they are trying to evade the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Some are reportedly receiving money, while others are being threatened, and I have solid evidence of this. If any MP finds my statements offensive, they can file a case against me; I am prepared to present my evidence in court.
Concerns Over Political Integrity
Banerjee expressed frustration over the lack of equal opportunities, stating that parties are being fractured not only in Bengal but also in Maharashtra. He pointed out that the Shiv Sena has been split into two factions, with the remaining part being manipulated for political gain. He emphasized that there is an attempt to alter the Constitution at any cost. I have received five summons, appeared before the CID and ED, and my home has been raided twice. There have also been raids at Mamata's residence, and her security has been altered. Our security has been removed, yet we have presented our case to the Speaker and are demanding prompt action.
