TMC's Parliamentary Team in Turmoil

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is currently grappling with significant dissent within its parliamentary ranks. Recently, an incident from the winter session of Parliament has resurfaced, drawing attention. Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and TMC leader Mahua Moitra recalled an event where rebel MP Yusuf Pathan was allegedly warned against protesting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This revelation came just a day after Pathan and 19 other dissenting TMC MPs informed Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla about their decision to merge with the 'National Citizens Party of India' (NCPI), further deepening the crisis within Mamata Banerjee's party.

Mehdi's Account of the Incident

Mehdi Describes Pathan's Distress

In a post on social media, Mehdi recounted the events during the winter session, particularly during the opposition's protests regarding 'Special Intensive Revision' (SIR) and other issues. According to Mehdi, Yusuf Pathan was participating in the protests alongside TMC MPs when a Muslim MP from another party allegedly approached him and advised him to leave. Mehdi claimed that when Pathan returned to his seat, he appeared visibly shaken. Mehdi noted, 'I saw a change in Yusuf's expression; he looked almost trembling.' He further mentioned that when he later inquired about the incident, the former cricketer reportedly stated that he had been warned against opposing the BJP. Mehdi recounted that the MP had told Pathan, 'What’s wrong with you? Why are you opposing the BJP... they will demolish your house in Gujarat.'

Moitra Targets Pathan and Mentions Owaisi

Moitra's Strong Remarks on the Situation

In response to Mehdi's post, Mahua Moitra took it a step further by publicly naming the individual allegedly involved—AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi. Moitra asserted that Owaisi had intervened at that time and assured Pathan that the party stood firmly by him. She expressed her disappointment, stating, 'It’s regrettable that I fought for a traitor who had neither courage nor backbone. Commentary would have been a better option for him. What a cowardly and spineless person he is.' Mehdi added that he felt sorry for Moitra and the TMC for having supported Pathan, only to be 'stabbed in the back' in return.
