TMC Leadership Change

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has officially designated Abhishek Banerjee as its leader in the Lok Sabha, as announced by party sources on Monday. Banerjee, who has been elected three times from Diamond Harbour, will succeed senior leader Sudip Bandopadhyay, the current MP from Kolkata North.


Sources indicated that Bandopadhyay has stepped down from this role due to health issues. The decision was made during a virtual meeting of party MPs chaired by TMC chief Mamata Banerjee.


Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members of the party participated in the meeting. Abhishek Banerjee is the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The TMC holds 29 seats in the Lok Sabha and is a significant member of the opposition 'INDIA' alliance.
