BJP's Strategy Against Mamata

BJP's Candidate Strategy

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its first list of 144 candidates for the assembly elections scheduled next month in West Bengal. The party has fielded Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the Bhawanipur constituency. According to the list, former state president Dilip Ghosh will contest from Kharagpur Sadar, Biman Mahato from Salboni, and Swapan Dasgupta from the Rasbihari seat in South Kolkata. BJP has also nominated Sumita Sinha from Kanthi North in East Medinipur, Biman Ghosh from Purshura in Hooghly, and Madhavi Mahalder from Kulatli in South 24 Parganas. Anima Dutta has been given a ticket from Palashipara in Nadia district, while Lakshikant Sahu will contest from Jhargram. Mamata Banerjee won the Bhawanipur seat in the 2021 by-elections, having previously lost to Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram, making her victory in this seat crucial for her to remain Chief Minister. Voting for the 294-member West Bengal assembly will take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4.
