TMC's Allegations of Voter List Manipulation

Abhishek Banerjee, the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has raised serious allegations regarding significant irregularities in the recent elections held in West Bengal. He claimed that nearly 3 million legitimate voters were removed from the electoral rolls. Banerjee stated that the party faced a challenging election and accused various institutions, including government agencies and the Election Commission, of acting in a biased manner. This revelation comes right after Suvendu Adhikari took the oath as the first BJP Chief Minister of the state, marking a significant political shift in West Bengal.

Concerns Over Election Integrity

In a post on X, Banerjee expressed that the party fought a very tough election, alleging that around 30 lakh genuine voters were excluded from the voter list. He noted that throughout this process, there was evident partiality from several government bodies and the Election Commission of India. This raised serious questions about the fairness, reliability, and transparency of the electoral process in West Bengal. He also voiced concerns regarding the counting process and the operation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Post-Election Violence Allegations

Banerjee accused the opposition of resorting to violence and intimidation against TMC workers and supporters after the elections. He assured that under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's leadership, the party would adhere to legal and democratic measures. He emphasized that numerous troubling incidents, from the counting process to discrepancies in control units, have led many to question whether the true mandate of the people was honored. He has already called for the release of CCTV footage from counting centers and a transparent counting of VVPAT slips to unveil the truth and address all doubts openly and honestly.

A Call for Unity and Support

In his post, he further stated that under Mamata Banerjee's guidance, the fight for democracy, constitutional values, and the rights and dignity of the people would continue without fear or compromise. He urged every TMC supporter and worker to remain strong and united during this challenging time. He encouraged anyone facing post-election violence, threats, or intimidation to reach out to him and share their information. He pledged to do everything possible to ensure their safety and to adopt all legal and democratic measures. Banerjee affirmed his commitment to standing shoulder to shoulder with every TMC worker and supporter to ensure the triumph of truth and to guarantee that both governments work sincerely in the interests of the people of West Bengal.

Political Landscape Shift in West Bengal

In the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, the BJP secured 207 seats, while the TMC, which had ruled the state for 15 years, managed to win only 80 seats. The results of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections have significantly altered the political landscape. Mamata Banerjee's long-standing dominance has come to an end, with the BJP taking power with 206 seats, marking a substantial setback for the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), which saw a drastic decline from its previous stronghold.
