Tipra Motha's Bold Stance: No Electoral Alliances Ahead of ADC Elections
Tipra Motha's Independent Path
Agartala, March 24: In a significant development that has altered the political dynamics in the state just before the Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, the leader of Tipra Motha, declared on Monday that his party will not form any electoral alliances with other political entities.
During a live social media broadcast, Pradyot emphasized that his commitment lies solely with the Tiprasa community, stating that this position will remain firm unless a written guarantee is provided for the prompt execution of the tripartite Tiprasa Accord established in 2024.
He stated, “I am now making it clear that there will be no alliances with any party or group unless we receive a written assurance.”
Reiterating his role as ‘Bubagra’ (king), Pradyot assured that he would never deceive or abandon his people. He also highlighted the potential for indigenous groups across the Northeast to achieve significant results if they unite on a shared platform, despite their diverse identities, languages, and cultures.
Moreover, he called on his supporters to maintain peace, refrain from violence, and engage in democratic processes during the ADC elections set for April 12 and 17. This announcement has introduced a new element into the pre-election alliance discussions, particularly amid rumors of a potential collaboration between the BJP and Tipra Motha.
Insider sources from the BJP have reported dissatisfaction regarding the management of alliance negotiations, suggesting that certain factions within the party may have complicated discussions for their own benefit, thereby placing Chief Minister Manik Saha in a challenging situation.
Reports indicate that talks between Tipra Motha and the BJP collapsed over seat-sharing issues. The BJP had proposed a 50:50 arrangement but was only willing to allocate 14 seats, a proposal that Tipra Motha deemed unacceptable.
In light of the impasse, Pradyot officially announced that his party would participate in the ADC elections independently. With just two days remaining for nomination submissions, political activities have surged throughout the state.
