March for Change: Addressing Infiltration in Tripura

Agartala, July 5: In a bid to highlight the persistent issue of infiltration in Tripura, David Murasing, a prominent leader of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), has initiated a significant 2,500-kilometer march from Agartala to New Delhi.

Murasing, who also serves as the zonal chairman of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in Birchandramanu, South Tripura, stated that the purpose of his march is to call on the central government to implement stricter measures against infiltration, which he views as a threat not only to Tripura but to the entire nation.

“For 75 years, infiltration has been a critical issue in Tripura. This is not merely a local concern; it is a national dilemma. If the demographic landscape of our northeastern state continues to shift due to this issue, it will pose significant challenges for the country,” Murasing expressed to the media before commencing his journey.

His destination is Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, where he intends to present a memorandum urging the government to take decisive action against illegal immigration.

Murasing also reminded officials of the Tiprasa Accord, which was signed in March 2024 between the central and state governments, noting that there has been little progress on its commitments over the past year.

“The central government may overlook Tripura's issues due to its smaller size, but we are citizens of India, and our challenges are national challenges,” he asserted.

He emphasized that the infiltration problem extends beyond demographic shifts, carrying serious security ramifications for the nation.

“We urge the Centre to tackle the infiltration issue decisively to ensure our safety and security,” he added.

Murasing's march is fully supported by TMP leader Pradyot Kishore Manikya, who has endorsed his mission.

“The Maharaja has given me his complete support and blessings. I undertake this mission as a concerned citizen of the state, not just as a party member,” Murasing stated.

The TMP is part of the ruling coalition government led by the BJP in Tripura. Previously, Chief Minister Manik Saha had declared that Tripura is no longer a ‘safe zone’ for infiltration, attributing this to the government's proactive measures to secure the international border.
