TIPRA Motha Party Demands Urgent Action on Tiprasa Accord Implementation

Urgent Call for Accord Implementation
Agartala, July 6: Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, the leader of the TIPRA Motha Party (TMP), has called on both the Central and Tripura state governments to take immediate steps to implement the Tiprasa Accord, which was signed in March 2024. This accord aims to protect the rights of the indigenous population and address the issue of infiltration from Bangladesh.
During a press conference, Debbarma expressed his disappointment regarding the lack of progress in executing the accord, which was supposed to be enacted within six months of its signing. He stated, "A year has passed without any advancement. I urge both the Centre and the State Government to initiate the implementation process without any further delay."
Debbarma mentioned that he had discussions with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who promised to relay these concerns to the central authorities. He expressed optimism that the accord would be executed in a respectful and effective manner.
Additionally, he announced plans to meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah by the end of the month. He noted the rising frustration among tribal communities, particularly in rural areas, due to inaction on these issues. The ongoing infiltration from Bangladesh remains a significant worry.
Debbarma urged the government to implement strict measures to secure the 856-km international border that Tripura shares with Bangladesh, which affects nearly all major towns in the state.
In a related initiative, TMP leader David Murasing, who also serves as the zonal chairman of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in South Tripura, has embarked on a 2,500-km foot march from Agartala to New Delhi. His goal is to raise awareness about the ongoing infiltration problem and to present a memorandum at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, advocating for enhanced border security.
Murasing stated, "Infiltration has been a challenge for Tripura for the past 75 years. This issue transcends state boundaries and is a national concern. A further disturbance in the demographic balance of the North East could threaten national integrity."
Despite being part of the BJP-led coalition government in Tripura, the TMP continues to advocate for expedited action on the demands set forth in the Tiprasa Accord and the safeguarding of tribal rights.
