Tilak Varma to Lead India A Squad
On Thursday, the Men's Selection Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the India A squad for the upcoming one-day tri-series set to take place in Sri Lanka this June. Star batter Tilak Varma has been chosen to captain the team, while the 15-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who is impressing in the IPL 2026 season, has also been selected.
Vice-Captain and Squad Composition
Riyan Parag, the captain of Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, will serve as the vice-captain for the tri-series. The squad is a blend of emerging domestic talents, including Priyansh Arya, Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Harsh Dubey, Suryansh Shedge, Vipraj Nigam, Yash Thakur, Yudhvir Singh, Anshul Kamboj, and Arshad Khan. This selection underscores India A's commitment to nurturing young players for future international competitions, with many IPL and domestic stars receiving opportunities.
Tri-Series Schedule and Format
The tri-series will include Sri Lanka A as hosts, alongside India A and Afghanistan A. After the limited-overs matches, India A will also engage in two multi-day games against Sri Lanka A, with the squad for these red-ball matches to be announced later. The white-ball series will occur in Dambulla, while the multi-day fixtures will be held in Galle.
Match Schedule
The tri-series is set to kick off on June 9, with the first match featuring India A against Sri Lanka A. The second match will take place on June 11, where India A will face Afghanistan A. Following this, Afghanistan A will compete against Sri Lanka A on June 13. The fourth match is scheduled for June 15, with India A once again up against Sri Lanka A, followed by another match against Afghanistan A on June 17. The sixth match will see Afghanistan A meet Sri Lanka A on June 19. The group stage will wrap up on June 21, 2026, culminating in the tri-series final.
