Tight Race Anticipated in Tamil Nadu Elections 2026: Survey Insights
Survey Results Indicate Competitive Landscape
According to a recent survey conducted by Matterize, the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections in 2026 are expected to witness a fierce contest between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led India Block and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The data suggests that the NDA may hold a slight edge, with projections estimating that the coalition could secure between 107 and 120 seats.
DMK-Congress Alliance Projections
The DMK-Congress alliance is projected to win approximately 102 to 115 seats. The survey results indicate that the newly formed party led by Vijay, Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), might capture between five and twelve seats, while other parties could garner one to six seats. The NDA's anticipated vote share stands at around 40%, compared to the DMK-Congress alliance's 38%. TVK is expected to achieve a vote share of 16%, with other parties likely receiving about six percent.
Key Political Figures Submit Nominations
Prominent leaders, including E.K. Palaniswami from AIADMK, BJP leader L. Murugan, Tamilisai Soundararajan, V. Srinivasan, and DMDK leader Premalatha Vijayakant, filed their nomination papers on Monday for the assembly elections scheduled for April 23 in Tamil Nadu. This day marked the final opportunity for candidates to submit their nominations. BJP state president Nainar Nagendran also filed his nomination for the Virudhunagar district's Sathur assembly seat.
Candidates from Various Parties
Rajya Sabha member and Union Minister L. Murugan submitted his nomination for the Avanashi (reserved) seat, while Tamilisai Soundararajan, a BJP leader and former governor, filed her papers from the Mylapore assembly constituency in Chennai. AIADMK's general secretary and former Chief Minister Palaniswami submitted his nomination from the Edappadi assembly constituency in Salem district, where he has previously won five times. V. Srinivasan, head of the BJP's women's wing, along with Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and former state president K. Annamalai, also filed their nominations from Coimbatore North, where she currently represents Coimbatore South in the assembly.
