Three Suspected Terrorists Killed in Shopian Gunfight with Security Forces

Gunfight in Shopian District

On Tuesday, three individuals suspected of terrorism were killed during an encounter with security personnel in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, according to statements from the Indian Army.

Reports indicate that these individuals are believed to have connections with the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, as per information from unnamed police sources.

The army initiated a search and destroy mission in the Shoekal Keller area of Shopian after receiving specific intelligence from its counter-insurgency unit, the Rashtriya Rifles, regarding the presence of terrorists.

During the operation, the terrorists engaged in heavy gunfire, leading to a fierce exchange that resulted in the death of the three suspects, as reported by the Indian Army.

The operation, named Keller, is ongoing.

This incident follows a recent agreement between India and Pakistan to cease hostilities after a four-day conflict.

Tensions escalated on May 7 when the Indian military conducted strikes, referred to as Operation Sindoor, targeting what they claimed were terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

These strikes were a response to a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals on April 22.

In retaliation, the Pakistan Army engaged in shelling Indian villages along the Line of Control, leading to the deaths of at least 22 Indian civilians and seven defense personnel.
