Three Police Officers Suspended in Meerut for Improper Handling of Unknown Body
Suspension of Officers Following Body Disposal Incident
In Meerut, three police personnel, including a home guard, have been suspended for allegedly discarding an unidentified corpse in a different area during the night. This action was taken after the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) reviewed footage from CCTV cameras that captured the officers' actions.
According to police reports, the CCTV footage from the Shastri Nagar L Block intersection showed two officers arriving on a motorcycle around 1:50 AM on Friday. They were seen placing the body of an unidentified individual, which had been brought in an e-rickshaw, in front of a shop before leaving the scene. Local residents discovered the body outside the shop in the morning and promptly notified the police, who then arrived to secure the body and send it for autopsy.
SSP Vipin Tada stated that initial investigations revealed that the body was placed in the L Block area by Police Constable Rajesh and Home Guard Rohitas using the e-rickshaw. Following this discovery, immediate action was taken to suspend Constable Rajesh, Home Guard Rohitas, and the L Block station in-charge (sub-inspector) Jitendra.
The investigation into the matter has been assigned to Ayush Vikram Singh, the Superintendent of Police (City). Local residents have alleged that in some instances, police tend to abandon bodies in other areas to evade responsibility. The SSP mentioned that further actions will be determined based on the investigation report.
