Lions Transferred After Attack on Child

In the early part of this month, three lions that attacked an 11-year-old boy in the Girnar hills of Junagadh district, Gujarat, have been moved to the Shakkarbaug Zoo. Officials provided this update on Thursday. Forensic investigations confirmed that two of the lions had consumed remains of the deceased child, while the behavior of the third lion is under continuous observation.

According to Akshay Joshi, the Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) in Junagadh, the lions attacked a boy named Mayur Chauhan on July 11 while he was climbing the Girnar hills with his family. Following the incident, all three lions were captured. Joshi stated, "The investigation report indicates that two of the captured lions had eaten the child's remains."

The lions are currently housed in an enclosure at Shakkarbaug Zoo, where they will remain. A final decision regarding their future will be made by senior officials. Joshi mentioned that the behavior of the third lion is still being monitored.

Meanwhile, forest officials have reported the presence of new lions in the area and have advised visitors to Girnar to stay alert. The forest department has warned travelers not to provoke or disturb the lions. They have urged people to travel in groups and to immediately inform the forest department if they spot any lions.

Joshi confirmed that a new group of three male lions has recently been sighted near the new steps at Girnar.
