Bomb Threat to BJP Leader

Sangeet Som, a prominent BJP leader, has reportedly received a bomb threat from a Bangladeshi number. This incident follows his recent comments advocating for Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman to participate in the IPL. As a result, the BCCI was compelled to make a decision regarding Rahman's participation. The threat was sent to Som's official government WhatsApp number on the morning of January 5, 2026, around 8:00 AM.

Support for BCCI's Decision

Previously, Som praised the BCCI's decision to instruct the Kolkata Knight Riders to release Mustafizur Rahman. He characterized this as a victory for Hindus and followers of Sanatan Dharma in India. The directive from the BCCI was issued by Secretary Devjeet Saikia, who noted that the board's request was made in light of recent events across the country. He also mentioned that the franchise could replace Rahman with another player if they wished.

Som's Remarks on Bollywood Actor

In response to this decision, Som expressed gratitude to the BCCI, stating that it sends a strong message. He criticized Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, a co-owner of the KKR franchise, suggesting that Khan should understand that living in India while opposing Sanatan values is unacceptable. Som asserted that the majority of Indians adhere to Sanatan Dharma, and it is their support that has elevated Khan to prominence.

BCCI's Intervention Amid Criticism

As criticism mounted, the BCCI intervened and issued directives to the KKR franchise. The board clarified that this decision was made considering the current situation. They also confirmed that KKR would be allowed to sign a replacement player under existing regulations. Mustafizur Rahman was acquired by KKR during the mini-auction for IPL 2026 held in December, where the franchise won him for ₹9.20 crores, significantly higher than his base price of ₹2 crores, after a bidding war with Chennai Super Kings. However, this deal soon sparked political controversy, leading to ongoing criticism directed at Shah Rukh Khan and the franchise.
