Successful Golf Tournament at Jammu Tawi
The Department of Industries, in partnership with FICCI FLO J&K, hosted 'The Magnolia Cup' golf tournament on Sunday at the Jammu Tawi Golf Course. This event aimed to enhance tourism, foster industry connections, and promote community growth in the region.
The tournament attracted a diverse group of participants, including entrepreneurs, professionals, business leaders, athletes, military personnel, and golf fans, creating a lively atmosphere for networking and showcasing sporting talent. Over 90 golfers registered, highlighting the increasing popularity of the Jammu Tawi Golf Course as a key destination for golf.
Government's Commitment to Sports and Peace
Satish Sharma, the Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, praised the initiative and noted the positive changes in the region. Speaking to the media during the event, he expressed his congratulations to the organizing team, particularly FICCI FLO.
He remarked, 'Despite the 40°C heat, we had over 90 golfers participate. We anticipated a lower turnout, but the love for sports, especially golf, prevailed. The Sports Minister also mentioned upcoming decisions made during the Chintan Shivir, which will be shared soon. Our goal is to establish Jammu and Kashmir as the country's hub for water and winter sports in the coming years.'
Sharma emphasized that such events signify the region's ongoing journey towards peace and stability, with increased sporting activities being a promising indicator for Jammu and Kashmir.
Enhancing Investor Confidence
Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner Secretary of Industries and Commerce, highlighted the rising investor confidence in the Union Territory. He reported a remarkable increase in investments, with proposals nearing Rs 5,000 crore, which is nearly 13 times higher than previous figures. Singh attributed this growth to improved infrastructure, supportive policies, and a stable environment, asserting that events like this enhance the region's reputation as an attractive destination for business and tourism.
Empowering Women Through Skill Development
Varsha Bansal, President of FICCI FLO Jammu, announced that the tournament's proceeds would support self-help groups and the establishment of skill development centers, focusing on empowering women and fostering financial independence.
Tournament Highlights and Winners
The tournament featured a scramble format for professionals and a putting competition for amateurs, promoting inclusivity and teamwork. The overall winning team included Showkat Maqbool, Parikshit Bishnoi, Rajesh Prabhakar, and Col. Malakay, while Wadhana Khan won the putting competition. Additional awards for straight drive, longest drive, nearest to the pin, and bull's eye contributed to the competitive atmosphere.
Notable attendees included Arun Manhas, Director of Industries and Commerce; Aijaz Qaisar, Joint Director of Tourism; and Manav Gupta, Secretary of the Jammu Tawi Golf Course, who participated in the ceremonial tee-off.
The Magnolia Cup not only showcased sporting talent but also emphasized a broader vision of integrating sports with tourism, industry promotion, and social impact, particularly through initiatives aimed at women's empowerment and skill development in Jammu and Kashmir.
