The Key to Success: A Lesson from a Sage
The Wisdom of a Sage
“If you desire something with great intensity, the entire universe conspires to help you achieve it.” This famous line from Shah Rukh Khan in the film ‘Om Shanti Om’ holds a significant truth. However, merely wanting something is not enough to taste success. There are additional elements required for that. Let’s explore the essence of success through a story.
The Sage and the Drowning Man
Once upon a time, there lived a wise sage in a village. The sage was quite old and possessed years of experience and knowledge, attracting people from far and wide with their problems. One day, a young man approached the sage, bowed, and said, “Guruji, I am very troubled. I work hard day and night, make numerous attempts, yet success eludes me. I feel defeated. Do you have a shortcut to success?”
Upon hearing this, the sage replied, “I have a method for you. Come to the riverbank tomorrow morning.” The young man felt delighted, thinking he would soon achieve great success through the sage’s guidance. The next day, he arrived at the riverbank to meet the sage. The sage led him into the river until only their heads were above water. Suddenly, the sage pushed the young man underwater.
The young man struggled and managed to break free, gasping for air. Shocked by the sage's actions, he exclaimed, “Why did you try to drown me? I was seeking a way to succeed, not death!” The sage calmly asked, “When you were underwater, what was the only thing on your mind?” The young man replied, “I was only thinking about taking a deep breath.”
The Lesson from the Story
The sage explained, “This is the secret to success. If you do not think about something continuously and do not give your 100 percent to achieve it, success will remain out of reach. There are no shortcuts to success. You must keep striving, even in the face of failure. Only then will success come to you.“
