Thalapathy Vijay Receives Historic Tribute at Wimbledon

A Unique Fusion of Cinema and Sports

Mumbai, July 14: Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay was celebrated at this year's Wimbledon, marking a remarkable intersection of film and athletics. For the first time, Wimbledon honored Indian cinema during the finals, where Jannik Sinner triumphed in a thrilling match against Carlos Alcaraz.

As the audience erupted in cheers, Wimbledon’s official social media account shared an unexpected post that delighted fans. The image resembled the Republic Day poster for the upcoming film ‘Jana Nayagan’. Sinner posed with his trophy in a striking selfie, reminiscent of Vijay’s teaser art from the movie. The post was cleverly titled "The First Roar," drawing inspiration from the dynamic background music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

This event marks a historic moment as it is the first time Wimbledon has recognized an Indian actor and film, making ‘Jana Nayagan’ the inaugural Indian cinematic tribute by this prestigious sporting venue.

Produced by Venkat K. Narayana under KVN Productions, the film is set for a worldwide release on January 9, 2026, coinciding with Pongal celebrations. This film holds special importance as it signifies the grand conclusion of Thalapathy Vijay’s remarkable acting career.

Alongside Vijay, the film features notable actors such as Pooja Hegde, Revathi, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Shruti Haasan, and Priyamani.

Filming commenced on October 5, 2024, at Prasad Studios in Chennai, starting with a song sequence featuring Vijay and Pooja, accompanied by 500 background performers.

‘Jana Nayagan’ is poised to be Vijay's last film before he transitions into politics, and it also marks KVN's inaugural Tamil production. The film was first announced in September 2024 under the working title Thalapathy 69, reflecting Vijay's 69th film as a lead actor, with the official title revealed in January 2025.
