Thackeray Brothers Announce Alliance for BMC Elections

After two decades of separation following differences between Raj Thackeray and his cousin Uddhav Thackeray, the two have declared an alliance for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections scheduled for January 15. The Thackeray cousins announced that details regarding the distribution of seats between their parties will be revealed soon. During a press conference where they appeared alongside their families, senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut described this moment as a "auspicious beginning." He emphasized that this alliance marks a positive step towards maintaining the saffron flag over the BMC and other municipal bodies, made possible solely through the efforts of the Thackeray brothers.

Addressing the press alongside his cousin, Uddhav Thackeray highlighted the significance of their reunion, stating that their unity is now paramount in empowering the Marathi community. The former Chief Minister accused certain forces of attempting to "destroy" Mumbai. He asserted that ongoing internal conflicts would be a disgrace to the martyrs and stressed that Mumbai can never be taken away from the Marathi people. Referring to the BJP's slogan "Divided, we fall," Uddhav urged the Marathi community to stay united, warning that any disunity would lead to fragmentation. He noted that they have come together as the "Thackeray brothers" and recalled the legacy of their grandfather, Prabodhankar Thackeray, who led the struggle for Maharashtra. He mentioned that it has been 60 years since the Shiv Sena was founded after Mumbai became part of the state.

During the press conference, Raj Thackeray stated that Maharashtra is greater than any internal disputes. He declared that their alliance is official and that the next mayor of Mumbai will be Marathi and from their coalition. Today marks the long-awaited moment for Maharashtra, as the Shiv Sena and MNS officially come together.
