Tesla's Model Y Sales in India Reach 225 Units in 2025
Tesla's Performance in the Indian Market
In New Delhi, it has been reported that Tesla, the American electric vehicle manufacturer, sold a total of 225 units of its Model Y SUV in India during the calendar year 2025, as per industry statistics.
Data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) indicates that Tesla's sales included 64 units in September, 40 in October, 48 in November, and 73 in December.
Tesla has not yet completed a full year of retail operations in India, having launched its first showroom in July.
Currently, the Model Y is available in India as a completely built unit featuring a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration.
The standard RWD variant is priced at ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Long Range RWD variant costs ₹67.89 lakh (ex-showroom). These prices are considerably higher than those in international markets, primarily due to India's elevated import duties on fully assembled vehicles.
Tesla has established experience centers in Gurugram, Mumbai, and Delhi, equipped with approximately 12 superchargers and 10 destination chargers across these locations.
The company claims that the Model Y can achieve a range of up to 500 km, with the Long Range variant reaching up to 622 km. The standard model can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 5.9 seconds, while the Long Range variant does it in 5.6 seconds, both models having a maximum speed of 201 kph. Fast charging can replenish around 238 km of range for the standard model and about 267 km for the Long Range in just 15 minutes.
According to data from the Vahan Portal, the electric vehicle market in India constituted 8 percent of all new vehicle registrations in 2025, with total EV sales hitting 2.3 million units.
A report from the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) highlighted that electric two-wheelers were the driving force behind EV growth, with sales reaching 1.28 million units, accounting for 57 percent of total EV sales. Electric three-wheelers (L3 and L5) contributed 0.8 million units, or 35 percent of the market, while electric four-wheelers saw sales of 175,000 units, particularly in the small and light commercial electric goods carrier segment.
